Disaster and Recovery Planning
The key to understanding the complexities of disaster preparedness and business continuity lies in focusing upon the issue of prevention. Disaster and Recovery Planning speaks about the issues of prevention, as well as "controlling" the effects of a disaster on a company's operations.

Disaster and Recovery Planning provides a rationale for systematically identifying and evaluating the hazards that create the potential for disasters. In doing so, it details specific strategies that are necessary to minimize the impact of disaster on a company's operations.

The September 11, 2001 attack on the World Trade Towers, the Pentagon and a commercial airline in Southwestern Pennsylvania are the most widely known terrorist acts in our history. It was an unfortunate moment in history as lives were shattered and the country was shaken. One of the lessons learned is that we cannot take anything for granted anymore.

EVERY 24 SECONDS SOMEWHERE IN THE WORLD A TERRORIST ATTACK OF SOME SORT OCCURS.

CHC realizes the need to have its’ clients prepared, because preparation and prevention will save lives. That is why CHC, through its’ Facilities Division, is now actively involved in the development of Disaster Mitigation and Recovery Planning. We are working with several Federal Agencies and private clients to prepare and implement Disaster Mitigation and Recovery Plans for their facilities.

DEVELOPING AN EFFECTIVE MITIGATION PLAN IS AN IMPORTANT MULTISTEP PROCESS

I. IDENTIFY BUSINESS ISSUES
Identify the Planning/Implementation and Operations Teams
Clarify Roles of the Team Members within the Various Segments
Identify Areas of Vulnerability-both Physical and Business related
Define Critical Issues to Operation Continuance and Damage Control

II. ESTABLISH AND PRIORITIZE CRITICAL BUSINESS NEEDS
Basic Operation Issues for Continuance
Secure Vital Records
Potential Emergency Identification Plans and Methods of Operation
PR Strategy & Damage Control Plans

III. DEVELOP THE PLAN
Identify Medical and Mental Services
Potential Reconstruction and Recovery Plans
Temporary Business Establishment Plans
IT Concerns, Vital Records
Step-by-Step Implementation Procedures

IV. IMPLEMENT THE MITIGATION PLAN

How Can CHC help to protect your facility and employees?
TWO WAYS:
A growing concern for both the public and private sector is protection from forcible entry. In an age where both foreign and domestic terrorism is a major concern- Force Protection has become a necessity rather than a luxury. It has become necessary to protect employees, property and critical information.
